Commission an Artwork
A photograph captures a single moment in time—an impression of a person on a specific day, at a certain hour, and at a particular age. In contrast, a painted portrait has the unique ability to go beyond the surface, capturing not just a visual likeness but also the physical presence, character, and personality of a person in a deeply layered and meaningful way. It conveys something intangible—a sense of who they are, rather than simply how they look.
Painted portraits are commissioned by all kinds of people for a variety of reasons. They serve as timeless keepsakes to commemorate life’s milestones—a pregnancy, birth, christening, a 21st or other significant birthday, an engagement, wedding, anniversary, retirement, or simply to preserve the essence of a loved one at a particular moment in their life. Each portrait tells a story, celebrating not just a person’s image but the depth of their individuality.
What You Need to Start:
To create a portrait that truly captures every nuance and detail, I kindly ask for high-resolution reference images. These images should clearly highlight facial details, including the eyes, expressions, and any unique features that define the subject's personality. Good lighting and sharp focus help me accurately translate these details into the painting, ensuring the final piece is as lifelike and meaningful as possible. The better the quality of the reference images, the more I can focus on bringing out the essence and character of the person in the finished portrait.
Alternatively, I can personally photograph your loved one to ensure I have complete control over the lighting, expressions, and overall quality of the reference images. This allows me to capture the exact details and atmosphere needed to create the most accurate and meaningful portrait. Please note that this service will incur an additional charge.
If you’re using cherished photos taken by a professional photographer as references, please ensure you have the appropriate copyright release. This helps us respect the creative rights of the photographer while allowing me to create your portrait with integrity.

My Process
IMPORTANT: Please Read
-
Once you’ve sent me the reference image, I’ll carefully review it to ensure it has the clarity and detail needed for the painting. If any adjustments or additional images are needed, I’ll discuss them with you before starting to ensure we’re aligned on the final vision. Any image editing can be done by me in Adobe Lightroom.
-
After reviewing the reference image, I’ll create a mock-up to check the composition and sizing for the painting. I’ll share the mock-up with you for feedback and approval before moving forward, making sure we’re on the same page about the overall layout.
-
Once we’ve finalized the details of your commission, I’ll provide a breakdown of the total cost, including the painting, shipping, or any travel expenses if applicable. (with quotes acquired as needed). The option to get your painting professionally framed is also available which will incur an additional charge. We’ll also discuss payment methods and I’ll provide you with my artist terms and conditions to ensure everything is clear and agreed upon before starting. Contact will be made through messages/phone call/email.
-
All prices are listed in Australian dollars. A 50% non-refundable deposit is required to secure your commission and begin the process. I will regularly send progress photos and adjustments can be made.
Details and Pricing
Prices are listed in AUD and exclude shipping and framing costs
An additional free of $75 will be charged for each additional subject and a $50 fee will be charged for a complex background.
Oil Paintings are created on Artitude Thin Edge Artist Boards OR Jasart Canvas Boards with Winsor & Newton Artisan Water Mixable Oil Paints
I prefer working on artist boards (wood) as they provide a sturdy, smooth surface that enhances the texture and detail of my painting style. This material ensures durability and allows for a refined finish.
The wooden boards also have a hollow back, making the hanging process more trouble-free
If you have any specific requests for the painting surface or alternative sizes that aren’t listed, I’m more than happy to discuss!

I exclusively do portrait paintings (whether that be from shoulders up or full-body). Unfortunately, I’m not experienced in landscape or abstract works. I am learning pet portraits and I’m able to paint still life if requested.

Outdoor lighting in the shade offers flattering and even lighting for portraits.
Soft, natural smiles often translate better into drawings than large, toothy grins.
Don’t be afraid of a silly expression! Nuances in the face make for a more interesting portrait.

When emailing photos from an iPhone, select the “Actual Size” option, and if using an Android, choose “Original Size” to preserve image quality.
It’s best to email photos rather than texting them, as texting can reduce the resolution and clarity of the images.
